Challenge

In late 2023, Downtown Disney contacted Ricky after a mutual friend recommended us. We were tasked with designing an interactive "Hitchhiking Ghosts" projection mapping experience for a high-traffic photo op. The objective was to bring these beloved characters to life by projecting them from within the statues themselves, using a combination of micro projectors and precision mirrors. The primary challenge was to achieve clear, vibrant projections that could stand out despite ambient daylight and the bustling atmosphere of the area, while maintaining the illusion that the ghosts were emerging from the statues as if by magic.

Results

The final installation captivated visitors with its innovative approach, transforming the statues into dynamic, interactive displays. By expertly utilizing micro projectors and mirrors, we achieved a seamless and immersive projection mapping effect, making the "Hitchhiking Ghosts" appear to interact with their environment in real time. The vivid visuals and engaging animations provided a unique and memorable photo opportunity, seamlessly blending with the Disney magic. Feedback from guests was overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the enchanting experience as a standout attraction in Downtown Disney.
